Lorry gets stuck - twice - as it tries to navigate narrow Swansea streets

A Tesco delivery lorry got stuck while driving the streets in Swansea - not once but twice.

It first encountered problems when it was travelling along Terrace Road in Mount Pleasant, and attempted to turn down Rose Hill, some time around 4am.

But its sheer size, coupled with boundary walls and cars parked along the streets meant it became stuck, and unable to reverse backwards.

The vehicle was stuck in place for more than four hours, until it was able to be moved.

One resident said: "It was stuck from around 4.30am. The police woke people up, including me, to move my car".

However, the sorry driver’s troubles didn’t end there.

In attempting to turn onto Constitution Hill, the lorry was once again became stuck, around 10am, having come into contact with a metal pedestrian hand rail.

Once again, the driver was stuck in-situ for another couple of hours.

Council officers attended the scene, and took the decision to cut the handrail free, in order to enable the lorry to move.

A spokesman for Tesco said the route was not the correct one, and specialist assistance was being provided to get the vehicle moved as quickly as possible.

He added: “One of our vehicles got into difficulty after taking the wrong route when delivering in Swansea this morning.

“We are investigating how this happened and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

It’s not the first time an artic lorry has become stuck on Constitution Hill - Swansea's notoriously steep hill that was immortalised in the cult film Twin Town.

Last July, a vehicle belonging to haulage company David Hathaway was stuck on the hill, which has a gradient of 30%, for over an hour.

It once again become immobile, while attempting to turn off Brooklands Terrace, which it had travelled along after freeing itself from its earlier predicament.
