Lorry gets jammed turning tight bend blocking Northumberland village road

A lorry caused traffic chaos in a Northumberland village after getting stuck turning a tight corner.

A large low-loader vehicle travelling northbound on the A1068 got lodged on a bend near Warkworth Castle.

The lorry was unable to pass around the narrow road, and needed the assistance of the police and passers-by on Friday.

The incident, which happened shortly after midday, brought traffic in Warkworth to a standstill for more than an hour with traffic officers having to close the road.

Diversions were also put in place for traffic while access was blocked through the village.

Pictures of the lodged lorry shows that the driver attempted a sharp right on Castle Street where temporary traffic lights are currently in place.

However, they became stuck between the wall of the castle grounds and a tree while making the manoeuvre.

Crowds came out to watch and help the driver of the delivery lorry.

Traffic was diverted for more than an hour until the driver eventually managed to escape their predicament.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 1.15pm on Friday we received a report a large vehicle was stuck on Castle Street, Warkworth.

"Officers attended the scene and assisted with traffic management and diversions while the road was temporarily closed."
