The northbound M6 at Stafford was shut this weekend after a lorry transporting tinned fruit overturned and went up in flames.
Both carriageways had to be shut due to the risk of tinned fruit that had heated up in the fire would explode and hit vehicles travelling southbound.
Emergency repairs took place through the night and the carriageway reopened early on Sunday morning, StokeLive reports.
Both carriageways between Junction 14 and Junction 15 between Stafford North and Hanchurch were shut from 3pm on Saturday.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service remained at the scene for much of the day.
It followed fears that exploding tins of fruit in the fire could have hit passing vehicles.
The southbound carriageway opened on Saturday night.
Motorists travelling north were initially diverted along the A500 through Stoke and the A34 as they attempted to rejoin the M6.
