This video footage captures the moment a lorry explodes on the M62 this morning after it was turned into a fireball.
The dramatic footage shows the HGV completely engulfed in flames with black smoke billowing across the carriageway.
And as the passing car from where the video was taken, gets closer the lorry appears to explode as fire tears through the vehicle on the hard shoulder of the M62 Eastbound at J9 Winwick.
North West Motorway Police confirmed a temporary closure was put in place around 8am to allow the fire service to extinguish the blazing lorry.
They tweeted: "Temporary closure of all lanes whilst fire extinguish the truck on the hard shoulder."
Understandably the fire caused congestion to J7 Rainhill Stoops and traffic diverting off at the junction and rejoining the other side, whilst emergency services attend the lorry fire on the hard shoulder.
The closure was short lived with a lane reopened around 8.30am but tailbacks remained.
There are no reported injuries at this stage.
