Police say a lorry stopped to protect the Fiesta from passing vehicles and to check on the welfare of its driver. A second lorry then collided with the first lorry.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the second lorry, but Mr Hass, was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Explosions’ were heard from three miles away in Bishop’s Cleeve following the crash early on Sunday morning.

Gloucester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed both lorries were 100 per cent damaged after catching fire following the crash.

The M5 was closed for a lengthy period following the crash. The northbound carriageway of the road was not opened until the following day due to extensive road surface damage following the incident.
