Lorry driver rushed to hospital after two HGVs smash into each other in M8 motorway crash

A lorry driver has been rushed to hospital after two HGVs smashed into each other on the M8 motorway earlier today.

Police and emergency crews were called to the two vehicle crash between Junctions 26 and 27 of the Westbound carriageway near Renfrew at around midday this afternoon.

Drivers faced lengthy queues while cops conducted their investigations into the incident while ambulance staff attended to the people involved in the crash.

Traffic Scotland reported that three lanes were closed to motorists shortly after the incident.

Police say that one of the drivers involved was taken to hospital. The affected stretch of the motorway has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 12.05pm on Tuesday, 5 October, 2021, police were called to a road crash westbound on the M8 at J26 where two lorries collided with each other.

“One male driver taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. No details on injury.

"The road is re-opened. No further police action."
