Lorry driver rescued after getting stuck in floodwater when River Ely burst its banks

This is the moment a lorry driver was rescued from his cab when his lorry got stuck on a flooded road.

The bakery van was stranded after the River Ely broke its banks at St Fagans, Cardiff.

A rescue team was filmed wading out to the Brakes lorry with a boat attached to a rope.

They got the driver out of his cab through the window of the lorry and brought him on the boat to safety.

He was taken away from the area by police.

It is the third time in three weeks that the river flowing to the west of the city has flooded.

The road was closed near the railway crossing on Tuesday morning, but not before this lorry got stuck in around 2ft of floodwater.

The railway line has also been closed and trains diverted because of the flooding.

In Peterston-super-Ely the Sportsman's Rest pub flooded for the third time in less than a month.

The National History Museum in St Fagans is open as usual but you can only access the site from the entrance off the A4232.

There are 11 flood warnings and 27 flood alerts across Wales following a night and morning of heavy rain.

Amber and yellow warnings for rain were in place across large parts of the country after more than 50mm fell in parts.
