Lorry driver rushed to hospital after oil tanker smashes into building in Scots village

A lorry driver has been rushed to hospital after an oil tanker smashed into a building in a Highland village.

Emergency services scrambled to Beauly High Street after the horror crash happened at around 12.45pm on Thursday, September 16.

Fire crews attended and removed a casualty from the vehicle before the male driver was handed over to ambulance teams.

Eyewitnesses told how the lorry smashed into bollards near Scotmid before swerving into a fruit and veg shop on the street.

One witness said: "Crazy big truck piled down the road at about 30mph, smashed the bollards on the Scotmid side and swerved into the buildings housing the fruit n veg shop.

"Hopefully nobody is hurt too badly. Very scary."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.45pm on Thursday, 16 September, we received a report of a crash on High Street in Beauly involving a lorry which has struck a car and a building.

“The male driver of the lorry was taken to hospital for treatment and the road re-opened around 7.40pm.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.47pm on Thursday, September 16 to reports of an incident involving a tanker and a property at High Street, The Square, Beauly.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and specialist resources to the area where a tanker had collided with a vacant building.

“One casualty self-extricated from the vehicle and one casualty was removed from the vehicle and handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews are currently still at the scene.”
