Lorry driver dies following serious crash on M1 near Nottingham

A 64-year-old man has died after a single vehicle collision involving a dropside lorry and the central reservation of the M1.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to the M1 southbound at around 11.40am to reports that a man had suffered serious injuries.

Emergency workers attempted to treat the man at the scene before the air ambulance landed on the carriageway. He died at the scene, police said.

Lanes one to three on the M1 northbound and lanes one and two on the M1 southbound between junctions 24 and 25 have now reopened. The remaining lanes will reopen once cleared.

Police Sergeant Mark Baker, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are now appealing for any witnesses or any dashcam footage of the incident to establish the circumstances around this collision.

“Anyone who with any information or footage should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 258 of June 2, 2020.”

Traffic was being held on the M1 after the "serious" crash, which closed part of the motorway. Highways England has confirmed that traffic has resumed on both carriageways.
