Lorry driver caught reading with both hands while on the motorway

A lorry driver was caught reading with both hands while driving down the motorway.

The shocking footage and image of the driver in the HGV was captured by a passing police officer on the M56 earlier this week.

According to Cheshire Police, the driver had both hands off the wheel when the motorbike officer saw him.

Issuing a warning to other drivers, an officer form the force stated that the results of a crash involving an HGV could be "devastating".

They also informed their followers on social media that the driver was stopped and issued with a TOR for the offence.

A TOR is a traffic offence report and is issued by an officer when they have reason to believe you may have committed a specified road traffic-related offence.

The driver will likely be contacted by Cheshire Police at a later date.

In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "This driver was seen reading from notes in both hands whilst on the M56 (image from bike camera).

"The driver was stopped and issued a TOR.

"The consequences of a collision could be devastating.

"It's not worth putting your or other road users lives at risk. #Fatal5 #CPBikeCops"
