Lorry driver arrested on Scots road over 'battered and dangerous' HGV

A lorry driver on a Highland road has been blasted by cops for his battered vehicle.

Shocking pictures released by the police show the white HGV with pieces missing around the front headlight and wiring exposed.

Officer said the front window was also cracked.

The 44-year-old Romanian driver was arrested after being pulled over on the A95 at Drumuillie.

Driving the vehicle posed 'a significant risk to himself and other road users' cops have said.

A statement issued by police read: "Road Policing officers from Highland and Islands Road Policing have been out checking HGV's for roadworthiness and compliance with drivers hours legislation.

his driver of this HGV, a 44 year old Romanian national was arrested on the A95 at Drumuillie for driving his vehicle in such a dangerous condition, that it posed a significant risk to himself and other road users.

A report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Road Policing Inspector Donnie Mackinnon said: "Under Operation Cedar, we are committed to keeping people safe on our roads and this was an example of someone who displayed an utter disregard for road safety. 

"Thankfully, nobody was injured and the driver was left in no doubt about the consequences of his poor decision making."
