Lorry crashes into railway bridge in Bridgend

A lorry collided a railway bridge on a busy road in Bridgend.

South Wales Police said Quarella Road in Bridgend was closed in both directions on Monday morning after a single-vehicle crash.

A force spokesperson said the crash involved a lorry striking the railway bridge, with the closure expected to remain for "some time".

Motorists were advised to avoid the area but the road appeared to re-open to traffic by about 11.30am later on Monday morning.

Delays to rail services in the area are also expected while the the bridge is inspected for possible structural damage.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they did not receive a call to assist with the incident.
