Lorry badly damaged after crashing into Kilmarnock bridge

A Kilmarnock road was closed yesterday afternoon after a lorry crashed into a bridge.

The heavy goods vehicle appeared to be badly damaged after it attempted to drive through the Bonnyton Road rail bridge at 3.10pm.

Police Scotland and Network Rail confirmed that the collision caused no structural damage to the bridge and no one was injured as a result of the crash.

'He touched the lives of anyone who knew him' tributes pour in for Darvel man Richie King, 21

A warning sign on the bridge states that vehicles must not exceed the 3.6m height restriction in place.

Police closed the road shortly after the incident and it was reopened later in the afternoon.

A Police spokesman said: “Police were called out to Bonnyton Road at 3.10pm on Thursday, April 11 to reports of a lorry that had struck a bridge.

“There was no damage to the bridge and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

“A man has been reported for a road traffic offence.”

Body of man, 21, found in Darvel house

A spokesman for Network Rail added: “The bridge was inspected by one of our engineers shortly after the incident this afternoon and reopened by 4pm.

“No damage to the structure and minimal impact on services.”
