Lorries could have wheels washed before travelling to keep A82 clean

Lorries leaving Dumbuck Quarry could have their wheels washed before joining the A82.

That was the suggestion made by council leader Jonathan McColl during a meeting of West Dunbartonshire Council last week.

Councillors were being updated on the Glasgow City Region City Deal and were informed that discussions are continuing with ExxonMobil in relation to commercial land at Milton.

The council leader was asked if agreements had been reached with third-party landowners or if compulsory purchase orders would be required.

Councillor McColl said that no definite agreements had yet been reached and wouldn’t be until the council is committed to the deal.

He did take the opportunity to suggest that quarry owners could be asked to guarantee that a system be installed to wash the wheels of lorries to prevent dirt deposits on the road.

He added that different businesses affected by the proposed project placed importance on different issues and that the quarry owners were particularly interested in better traffic movement at Dunglas roundabout.

An 800-page environmental impact assessment has been completed.

Councillors heard that West Dunbartonshire Council will be responsible for lodging a planning application for the masterplan, which includes 16 acres of land, two new roundabouts, road bridge, over bridge and roads. It’s expected to be submitted in late summer.

Councillors were informed that East Dunbartonshire Council are to submit a strategic business case for a project should further funding become available.

The council leader insisted that West Dunbartonshire Council would be looking to compete for any new funding made available.
