Lorraine Warren dead: Paranormal investigator who inspired 'The Conjuring' dies aged 92

Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigator whose work inspired the horror film, The Conjuring, has died aged 92.

Her grandson shared the news of her death on Facebook , in which he revealed that Lorraine was "happy and laughing until the end" and that she had passed away "quietly and peacefully" on Thursday night.

Chris McKinnell wrote in a post on the social media site: "Last night my grandmother, Lorraine Warren, quietly and peacefully left us to join her beloved Ed.

"She was happy and laughing until the very end. She was my angel and my hero, and she will be deeply missed.

"Please join us in celebrating her life and honoring her beautiful soul. Remember to treasure those you love while you can. Thank you and God bless you all."

Lorraine's paranormal work influenced a number of blockbuster horror movies including The Conjuring and Annabelle.

She also spent time at the Amityville Horror house, as part of a number high-profile investigations into otherworldly activity.

Tributes from around the world were posted on social media, with Vera Farmiga, who played Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films, tweeting: "My dear friend Lorraine Warren has passed. From a deep feeling of sorrow, a deep feeling of gratitude emerges.

"I was so blessed to have known her and am honored to portray her. She lived her life in grace and cheerfulness.”

UK Celebrity Ghost Hunter Lee Roberts wrote: "RIP Lorraine Warren, a pioneer in the Paranormal field, most of you will know the name from The Conjuring films but Lorraine and husband Ed were both Paranormal enthusiasts in their own rights.

"She’ll be sadly missed by many."

Grant Wilson Paranormal Investigator and YouTuber, also posted a tribute on Twitter , writing: "Sadly, we say goodbye to one of the true pioneers of paranormal investigation, Lorraine Warren.

"I’m sure she’ll work hard to help from the other side, but hopefully, only after a small break. You’ve earned it, Lorraine."

She worked with her husband, Ed Warren, until his death in 2006.
