Lorraine's Mark Hayes bursts into tears as host surprises him on air

Lorraine Kelly was left apologising after fashion expert Mark Heyes burst into tears on today's programme.

The ITV host decided to surprise him live on air ahead of his birthday over the weekend.

Lorraine, 60, said: "A little bird might have told me you were 21 at the weekend."

Happy Birthday then began blasting out in the studio with Mark laughing: "Thank you, my darling."

But that wasn't the end of it as Lorraine said: "And we've got a wee special message. Have a look at this."

An unsuspecting Mark replied: "Have you?!" as a video message began to play from his mum and dad.

The 44-year-old was instantly filled with emotion, holding his hand as he began to tear up.

Lorraine said: "How lovely are your mum and dad!"

"That's the nicest," Mark managed to reply as he cried.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry," Lorraine said as she herself began to tear up.

"No, it's OK," Mark replied. "It is what it is. This is how we're all feeling this week, isn't it?"

And viewers felt the emotion too.

"Bless him happy birthday mark you had me welling up," wrote one.

Another said: "Aww.... Happy Birthday Mark."

"Aaah, I hope Mark is ok. He looks like I feel today," added a third.
