Lorraine Kelly winces as Ross King breaks $30,000 Star Wars memorabilia live on air

They say you should never work with animals and children.

And after today, Ross King can add expensive movie memorabilia to the list.

The showbiz journalist was speaking to Lorraine Kelly about items from well known Hollywood films being auctioned off for big bucks when he had a little on-air accident.

Ross, appearing from his home in Los Angeles, was showing off a Star Wars lightsaber used by Samual L Jackson in Episode II – Attack of the Clones when he appeared to break it.

He had literally just told the Scottish presenter that it was worth around $30,000.

He said: “All this stuff made for the movies. This from Star Wars Attack of the Clones.

“This was the one used by Samual L Jackson. How much do you reckon this may go for? $25-30,000.”

He then swooshed the lightsaber around a little as if he was pretending to use it, before handing it over to a member of the crew who was standing off camera.

That’s when something seemed to break off in his hands.

“Oh, woops,” he said, as he looked at the camera with a very worried look on his face.

He then held up what looked like a piece of metal before swiftly handing it back to his off-screen aide.

Lorraine started laughing in shock before pulling a worried face.

“Oh no,” she said. “You know that you said that was worth 35 thousand dollars?

“It’s maybe now worth 35 dollars.”

Ross paused, put his hand to his face, and then burst into nervous laughter.

“Sadly that could be true,” he replied.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
