Lorraine Kelly 'upset' by Covid rule-breakers and 'crazy theorists' because of Kate Garraway

Lorraine Kelly has admitted to her upset over those who break coronavirus restrictions because of pal Kate Garraway.

The ITV presenter has watched her co-star of many years suffer as husband Derek Draper battled coronavirus and the lasting damage it has caused.

Lorraine, 61, was full of praise for Good Morning Britain star Kate, 53, and how her situation "brought it home" how serious it is to those at ITV.

"When I interviewed Kate she was able to come to the studios because we're all in a bubble at work," Lorraine told OK! Magazine.

"But we were talking about Derek and I just wanted to give her a big cuddle.

"Because of what happened to her, it brought it home to all of us at work just how serious this is.

"That's why I get so upset when I see people having raves and not wearing their masks, and all of these crazy theorists who say the pandemic's not a real thing.

"My friend’s husband has been in hospital since March."

She added: "Honestly, she is the bravest girl. I don’t know how she does it.

"We've known each other for years and I've always really liked her because, obviously, she’s lovely, but she is also a steel magnolia. She’s been incredible.

"She says she's not doing anything that anybody else wouldn't do but I’m not so sure about that. I think she's remarkable.

"And, of course, she says she's got to keep going for the kids. That's the most important thing but it's been hard. She's amazing."

Kate with Derek (ITV)

In recent weeks it has been revealed that Kate doesn't know if Derek will ever fully recover.

The former lobbyist was admitted to hospital in March 2020 and was later placed into an induced coma.

The 53-year-old suffered major complications and while now being free from the virus, is suffering from the damage it has caused.
