Lorraine Kelly shared poignant news about Kate Garraway's husband which prompted an outpouring of well-wishes from viewers watching at home.
It was revealed at the start of last month that Kate's other half, former Labour MP Derek Draper, was in intensive care after contracting Covid-19.
And after Kate herself paid tribute to the NHS last week, Ben Shephard told millions of viewers that Derek was in a coma, saying: "She's been able to speak with Derek in the evenings, in a coma. She's been able to share music with him, talk to him."
On Friday, Ben gave another update on Kate and her family and then, after revealing today [Monday] was Kate's birthday, Lorraine said: "As far as we know he's not getting any worse, he's stable; so while that's happening there is hope.
"It's been so tough for them; so this birthday will be delayed until hopefully Derek is back and hopefully that will be very, very soon."
Lorraine's update and the news that it was Kate's birthday sparked a huge reaction on Twitter from viewers.
One tweeted: "Today I don't wish for you cards and gifts and balloons and such but for the return of good health for the one you love so much... a huge HUG from Derek as I know he would want us to send one to you. Stay strong Kate we love you."
Sharing similar sentiments, another posted: "Hoping and praying for the best birthday ever for you Kate. To have your lovely husband, turn a corner and give you signs of a full recovery. Thinking of you all and sending love and hugs. Get well soon Derek."
