Lorraine Kelly tells people to 'forget' Halloween this year

Lorraine Kelly has told viewers to 'forget' Halloween this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Scottish TV host chatted to Dr Hilary Jones on Monday's show as they discussed whether Covid-19 means that kids cannot go trick or treating.

The pair issued a stark warning over Halloween and claimed going guising could help spread the killer bug.

Lorraine said: "Halloween is almost upon us, it is looming. It's probably best to just not."

She added: "Let me make it clear, people are saying 'you can do this, you can do that', perhaps it is easy this year just to say: no. I'm sorry."

Medical expert and healthcare professional Dr Hilary agreed and said: "If you think about children and the buckets of communal sweets outside the front doors.

"Who has touched those wrappers? How many children?

"So you're increasing the risk on transmission quite a lot by doing that.

"Again, if you call on an elderly person's house, you are putting them at risk."

Lorraine said: "Probably best, for clarity's sake, just to cancel it for this year isn't it?"

It comes as Scots families have been urged not to go guising this Halloween in case it helps spread coronavirus.

The Scottish Government urged people stay within the current restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Deputy First Minister  John Swinney said families should celebrate Halloween in their own homes this year and not to partake in the traditional act of knocking on neighbour's doors.
