Lorraine Kelly swears on air and calls Covid 'karma' for cruel animal conditions

Lorraine Kelly stunned viewers on Monday as she swore on air before claiming that coronavirus was "karma" for keeping animals in cruel conditions.

Speaking to Dr Hilary Jones, Lorraine said: "We will keep our fingers crossed and hope that everybody obeys, but it kinds of seems a bit half-a***d, if we are allowed to say that."

Hilary replied: "Absolutely, you've got most people being compliant, being sensible, and you've got a small proportion who just don't seem to care and are not obeying the rules that they should be following."

Dr Hilary also debunked the new report mouthwash can kill Covid, saying there is "no strong evidence" it works.

He said it is unlikely mouthwash can penetrate deep enough into the nose and lungs.

Lorraine said she was "shocked" to learn that mink farms still existed at all with the news that millions of minks in Denmark were culled recently as they were carrying a mutated form of Covid.

"This is very worrying, we believe that there has been a mutation of the virus in these poor wee animals," she said.

Dr Hilary replied: "We know that coronavirus has different gemones, if you look at the genetic it would be slightly different in different parts of the world.

"The one they have found in mink is more resistant to antibodies and more resistant to the effects of a vaccine.

"That's why the government has reacted very quickly in saying no lorry drivers coming in from Denmark, they will be turned away at the ports.

"Air crew coming in from Denmark have to self-isolate across the border with their families.

"They don't want those strain to become prevalent in this country, as it might do otherwise, and we would be back to square one."

Lorraine said: "Don't you think if you keep animals like that in those kinds of conditions, something is going to come and bite you back.

"It's karma, it's desperate. "

Hilary answered her: "If you keep animals in these conditions they are like to generate, it happened with swine flu and bird flu."

Lorraine remarked: "You reap what you sow."
