Lorraine Kelly snubs former colleague in excruciating Good Morning Britain moment

There was an awkward moment on Good Morning Britain today as Lorraine Kelly offered a curt response when a former colleague was mentioned.

Conservative MP Esther McVey was formerly a television presenter - as well as a businesswoman - and co-presented GMTV with Eamonn Holmes.

But her appearnce on GMB this morning produced an excruciating moment today.

Mrs McVey, a controversial Conservative Party politician, who is MP for Tatton, served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions from January 2018 to November 2018.

She resigned after ten months in opposition to the Brexit negotiations and the Brexit withdrawal agreement.

Today, she appeared on the ITV1 daytime favourite Good Morning Britain, where she was chatting to presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

As the duo sat beside Charlotte Hawkins, the camera cut to Lorraine Kelly, who was tasked with giving ITV viewers a tantalising preview of her show today (Monday, June 10).

Susanna Reid, opposite Mrs McVey, who was appearing on video link, asked Lorraine: "Do you remember Esther McVey from your GMTV days?"

Lorraine bluntly hit back: "Yes I do".

The Scottish presenter then moved on very swiftly, introducing her guests for her show.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to laugh about the incident, with one guffawing: "Crikey, Lorraine doesn't like Esther, does she?"

"Esther Mcvey getting parred by Lorraine", a second wrote, with crying emojis.

Another wrote: "When they went back to Lorraine she was asked again and she said something along the lines of “I don’t really remember her” but her face said it all."

"I LOVE IT" another viewer wrote.

In July, it was reported by the head of the National Audit Office (NAO) that McVey had misled parliament over the new Universal Credit scheme by claiming that the NAO report showed that it should be rolled out faster when in fact the report concluded that the roll-out should be paused.

She apologised to the House of Commons amid calls for her resignation.

In May 2019, McVey announced her intention to run for the leadership of the Conservative Party when Theresa May resigns, claiming that she already had "enough support" to stand.

She has since launched Blue Collar Conservatives, as part of her leadership campaign, with MPs such as Scott Mann, Iain Duncan Smith and her partner Phillip Davies in attendance.
