Lorraine Kelly has said she noticed more people out on the roads following the actions of Dominic Cummings and said that it has now "eroded trust" in the government.
The Scots TV presenter, who hit out at the prime minister's senior aide yesterday for his "breathtaking arrogance", also suggested that the government was now "relying on the public getting bored".
Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Lorraine gave her opinion on Cummings' press conference yesterday in which he explained his reasons for driving from London to Durham despite lockdown.
During the conference, Cummings said that he did not regret his actions, nor did he apologise for what he had done.
He also insisted that he acted "responsibly" and within the law.
Speaking to GMB correspondent Ranvir Singh, she said that she noticed "more people out and about" after the scandal.
She continued: "It erodes trust, doesn't it? It's one of those things you can't quite define and it erodes trust in the government."
"Exactly," Ranvir replied. "On top of Neil Ferguson, the leading immunologist, epidemiologist, who had to resign because he actually had covid-19 and said he believed he was immune and invited his lover over to meet him a couple of times during the lockdown.
"These sorts of things - ministers are actually worried about this. It muddies the water over how they give that messaging out to the rest of the UK.
"How can you say to people who have not been at the funerals of their loved ones or been at the bedside of their dying parents to say, 'Listen, you've got to carry on making those very difficult decisions and stay at home'."
Lorraine responded: "It's kind of like they rely on us getting bored. Because that's what happens, isn't it? It's just that the story moves on and they're desperately trying to move the story on to Britain being open for businesses."
She added: "There is that thing of 'Sit tight and it'll all go away and it'll be fine and people will forget'."
