Lorraine Kelly slams 'disappointing' Matt Hancock on live TV amid affair allegations

Lorraine Kelly has slammed Matt Hancock amid claims of an affair and a breach of coronavirus restrictions.

Pictures emerged of the Tory Health Secretary appearing to kiss his aide Gina Coladangelo, who he appointed in his office at the Department for Health and Social Care.

The CCTV images are believed to have been taken on May 6 when strict social distancing measures were still in place across England.

Opposition politicians have called for the Tory minister to be sacked from his role after the images were put in circulation.

And Lorraine expressed her own disappointment in the 42-year-old as she spoke about the pictures on her own daytime TV slot this morning.

“Allegations this morning, I’m sure you’re aware, around Matt Hancock’s - shall we say, private life”, Lorraine said.

“For goodness sake, honestly. There’s so much we’d love to say about this but we can’t. If you could hear our conversation off air about this.

“Disappointing doesn’t even cover it.”

Mr Hancock, who is married and has three children, said he was “very sorry” in a statement after the pictures emerged in The Sun newspaper this morning.

“I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances, I have let people down and I am very sorry”, he said.

“I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he has accepted Hancock’s apology and now “considers the matter closed”.

"You've seen the Health Secretary's statement, so I would point you to that," a spokesman for the Prime Minister said after being asked by reporters why Hancock remained in post.

"I don't really have anything further to add.

"The Health Secretary set out that he accepted he had breached the social distancing guidelines and he has apologised for that.

"The Prime Minister has accepted the Health Secretary's apology and considers the matter closed."
