Lorraine Kelly slams 'covidiots' for showing contempt to Kate Garraway and her husband

Lorraine Kelly has lashed out at who she has branded 'covidiots' for "showing contempt" for her colleague Kate Garraway and her husband by disregarding social distancing rules.

It was at the end of March that Kate's other half, ex Labour aide Derek Draper was taken ill with COVID-19 and, even though he displayed only a few of the obvious symptoms, his condition deteriorated rapidly and he was placed in an induced coma by doctors.

Kate, Lorraine 's Good Morning Britain co-host, returned to the studio this week to speak about Derek and candidly revealed that she'd been told six times by doctors that he "might not make it."

Derek is still in intensive care and Lorraine says Kate "has been going through hell," watching the man she loves "being attacked and ravaged by this vicious disease."

And, in her column for The Sun, Lorrraine has also blasted those people who continue to float Government guidelines on protecting ourselves against coronavirus and rules on social distancing.

She ranted: "Knowing what Kate has been through — and what she continues to deal with — makes me infuriated with people who flout the lockdown rules.

"The ones who don’t wash their hands, who go on drinking binges in parks with their pals, and think it’s OK to have raves and street parties.

"They are effectively showing utter contempt for Kate and Derek as well as all of the heroic NHS and care workers toiling in the front line, and those who have died doing their jobs."
