Lorraine Kelly invited to Nicola Sturgeon and Liz Truss' first meeting to 'hold jackets'

Nicola Sturgeon has invited Lorraine Kelly along to her first meeting with the new Prime Minister, joking she can "hold the jackets".

The First Minister appeared on ITV 's Lorraine on Wednesday morning to discuss how she plans to work alongside Liz Truss after she was sworn in as PM yesterday.

Ms Sturgeon told viewers of the programme that she "stands ready to work constructively" with the PM, despite their political differences.

Surgeon also added that she would always be welcome to Bute House in Edinburgh for talks.

At the end of this morning's interview, Lorraine said: "I think that first meeting is going to be an interesting one, maybe a tad icy."

To which, Nicola Sturgeon replied: "I'll invite you to it Lorraine, you can hold the jackets."

"Yeah, I would quite like that actually, sounds like a good plan." responded Lorraine.

Speaking earlier in the show, Sturgeon said: "The new Prime Minister is welcome to come here to Bute House for discussions anytime she likes, Liz Truss is of course the fourth Prime Minister I have dealt with in my time as First Minister and I've welcomed her three predecessors here.

"What I would say is there are big really important issues for us to discuss - we have deep political differences, I think we can take that as read.

"But we've both got a responsibility and a duty to the people we serve to work together to try to find ways of getting the UK through the cost of living crisis."
