Lorraine Kelly in tears as Scots best friend of 50 years turns up on TV show

Lorraine Kelly broke down in tears this morning as her best friend of 50 years surprised her live on TV.

The 62-year-old was busy presenting her ITV show when it was ambushed by Dr Amir Khan who told her he had a very special surprise for her.

The presenter looked extremely confused but Dr Khan said all would be revealed after the break.

On the return, a pre-recorded 'Friends for Life' message ran across the screen and soon Lorraine realised that it featured her best friend of 50 years, Joyce.

Lorraine and her pal Joyce have been friends since they were 12-years-old and since she now lives in France, the pair have only been able to communicate via video call.

Joyce began reminiscing about all the good times she and the presenter had and how she would literally drop everything to be by her side.

Joyce then revealed that Lorraine flew straight to Scotland when she found out that her friend's father died and Lorraine could be seen wiping away tears from her eyes.

Lorraine smiled and turned to Dr Amir: "You found a photograph of me and Auntie Joyce drinking wine! How did you manage that?!"

"Well to be fair that was the easiest part of all of that," Dr Amir replied before adding: "Lorraine watching that, I think we all want to be your best friend, but that isn't the last of the surprise, we have got someone really special here for you..."

Then suddenly, the screen opened from the middle and Joyce then appeared giving Lorraine the shock of her life.

She wept: "I can't believe you kept this from me!" before claiming she wasn't "allowed" to hug her.

Joyce continued talking about their friendship.

She said: "She was just different, she just wanted to do things in her own way,"

"We had already started at secondary school, was a couple of months in so friendships had formed, and then this creature appeared!

"And she was just doing her own thing, being her own person and I thought, 'you're cool'."

Lorraine chimed in: "Does this mean we can go out later?"

The pals smiled as they reminded each other of the time they danced on tables in Paris together.

When asked how they had kept their friendship alive all these years, Lorraine said: "I think when you've got a connection with somebody.... it's like what you said, I don't have a sister and you don't have a sister, but I do really coz I've got you. I can't believe you kept this from me!"
