Lorraine Kelly gets upset over Covid rule-breakers because of Kate Garraway's suffering

Lorraine Kelly admits she gets angry with Covid rule breakers and wild conspiracy theorists because of close pal Kate Garraway.

She feels people who ignore regulations are insulting those suffering during the pandemic.

The 61-year-old told OK! Magazine that she doesn't know how Kate copes as husband Derek Draper continues to need around-the-clock treatment.

It's nearly a year since he was rushed to hospital and the presenter admits she doesn't know what the future holds.

Lorraine is impressed by how her friend is holding things together.

She says its a kick in the teeth whenever she hears of people flouting government guidelines.

She told the publication: "When I interviewed Kate she was able to come to the studios because we’re all in a bubble at work. But we were talking about Derek and I just wanted to give her a big cuddle.

"Because of what happened to her, it brought it home to all of us at work just how serious this is.

"That’s why I get so upset when I see people having raves and not wearing their masks, and all of these crazy theorists who say the pandemic’s not a real thing.

"My friend’s husband has been in hospital since March."

Kate fears Derek may deteriorate after being unable to see family since Christmas.

Lorraine says Kate is keeping strong for her children.

Good Morning Britain star Kate shares Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, with her psychologist husband.

It the kids who keep her going, the ITV favourite believes.

"Honestly, she is the bravest girl. I don’t know how she does it," added Lorraine.

"We’ve known each other for years and I’ve always really liked her because, obviously, she’s lovely, but she is also a steel magnolia. She’s been incredible.

"She says she’s not doing anything that anybody else wouldn’t do but I’m not so sure about that. I think she’s remarkable.

"And, of course, she says she’s got to keep going for the kids. That’s the most important thing but it’s been hard. She’s amazing."
