Lorraine Kelly forced to drop out of her ITV show for the first time in 30 years

Lorraine Kelly was forced to drop out of appearing on her morning show show at the last minute due to an unkown illness.

Ahead of her 9am slot on Wednesday, Good Morning Britain presenters Kate Garraway and Ed Balls informed viewers that Lorraine had been sent home for the first time in over 30 years.

"In almost a first in her 30-year-plus history on breakfast TV, she’s actually gone home. She’s not well," said Garraway.

"She’s got a bug. We’re wishing you very well, Lorraine. I hope you’re getting better."

Garraway then revealed that Ranvir Singh would be filling in as host.

Singh added on air that she got the call with just a couple of hours’ notice, and managed to get herself on a train in just 12 minutes on hearing the news.

Kelly took to Twitter to share her disappointment about having to miss work, along with not getting to interview Queen singer Adam Lambert.

"When you have to be sent home from work early in the morning because you are suddenly attacked by a hideous bug and were looking forward to interviewing @adamlambert," she wrote.

Ranvir Singh rushedly stepped in last minute to replace Kelly (ITV)

"Beyond disappointed but imagine if I had infected him!!!!!!"

Her post was met with well-wishes from fans.

Last month, the 63-year-old revealed that she had been recovering from keyhole surgery on her shoulder over Christmas.

"I had a wee operation on my shoulder, it’s been annoying me for ages," she said.

Kelly said she was gutted to have missed out on interviewing Queen singer Adam Lambert (ITV)

"Thank you to Professor Levy and his brilliant team because, oh my goodness, keyhole surgery is incredible.

"I just had to remove some calcification and a little bit of bone."

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV
