Lorraine Kelly forced to change Christmas after family hit by Covid

Lorraine Kelly has revealed she had to make significant changes to her Christmas after her family was hit with Covid over the festive period.

After being off air for a number of weeks, apart from a pre-recorded Christmas Day special, the popular TV host was back in her usual 9am slot on Tuesday morning.

Her first guest was resident TV medic Doctor Hilary Jones, who joined her to discuss reports that normal life could resume 'in a matter of months' as the Omicron variant of coronavirus subsides.

And it was then that Dr Hilary admitted that he'd tested positive over Christmas, conceding: "Everyone's going to get this at some point."

Lorraine then told viewers that she'd sought advice from the GP after daughter Rosie and her boyfriend James contracted Covid a few weeks ago, forcing them to change their Christmas plans.

She explained: "It was very, very close to us. We still have a decent Christmas, it was fine, we just had to make christmas Day another day."

Dr Hilary replied: "I thank the lord I had three jabs because it certainly mitigated serious infection. For me, it was like a bad cold and I came out the other side and I thank the lord our lucky stars we have the vaccines to protect us."

Lorraine then responded: "We are so lucky to have that, we really are. It's made all the difference in the world."

While keeping fairly positive, Dr Hilary did earn of another spike in Covid infection rates after New Year celebrations, telling Lorraine: "I do worry that after New Year and the sales, all those people at those venues, that we will see a further surge before we come out of it.".
