Things took an emotional turn when Eddie thanked the presenter for 'being there'.

Lorraine began the conversation by saying: "Just before Christmas you were in the news wanting to be known as 'she' now, and so can I apologise to you if I get that wrong.

"Because we are still kind of just going along with it."

Eddie replied: "Let me say this, I just request, and I have been out for 35 years, 1985, a lot of people are supportive.

"I was asked, and I thought, 'Well I would like to be she, because I was in girl mode.

"There is a request, but it is never a demand or an insistence, and some people twist that and some people get het up about it.

"It's as if people are saying, 'Are you serious about being trans because we just didn't know for 35 years?’'

"If people have a problem, just call me Eddie, it's no big deal for me, I am gender fluid, I do all my dramatic roles in boy mode.

"If people are angry, I am trying to tell the truth at a time when lies are used as a tool of politics."

She also said that she'd continue attempts to become an MP adding: "You know me, I am a relentless so and so and I will keep going until I get into parliament as an MP."
