Lorraine Kelly delighted as her beloved mum Anne gets first jab of Covid-19 vaccine

Lorraine Kelly was over the moon today as she revealed her mother received her first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The presenter spoke about the good news on her show this morning and later took to social media to share the photo which brightened up her day.

Lorraine shared an image on Instagram of her mother Anne Kelly in a face-mask as she was about to receive her jab at the Ally McCoist sport complex in East Kilbride.

Lorraine captioned the image: "My mum getting the vaccine! Hurrah.

"Thanks to the NHS, the army and all the volunteers making it happen. #thankful #happy ".

And many of Lorraine's followers send well wishes on the post.

Fellow ITV presenter Piers Morgan commented: "Fabulous [applause emojis]".

Former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison wrote: "She’s so beautiful Lorraine [arrow-through-heart emoji]".

Back in December, Lorraine got emotional on her show after hearing a special Christmas message from her mum live on air.

The presenter had been unable to see her mum due to Covid restrictions and broke down after hearing the sound of her voice.

12 million people in the UK have now had at least one jab of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Nearly 550,000 people are believed to have received a jab on Saturday alone.

The UK government is aiming to deliver at least the first jab to the first four priority groups - amounting to 15million people - by February 15.

At the current rate it is believed that 16million people will be vaccinated by that date.

A recent study has caused concern by suggesting that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine carries "minimal" efficacy in dealing with mild disease from the South African variant of Covid-19.

However, ministers have stressed that there is "no evidence" that this vaccine will not prevent severe illness.

AstraZeneca has said that the vaccine offers good protection against the Kent variant, which is believed to now be the dominant strain in the UK.

The company believes if will have a booster jab to combat mutant variants by the Autumn.

Elsewhere, the Pfizer-BioNTech, Novavax, Janssen, and Moderna vaccines are all believed from early data to at least offer some protection in regards to the new Covid-19 variants, including the South African variant.

*Lorraine continues on weekday mornings from 9am on ITV.
