Lorraine Kelly breaks down in tears after hearing touching Christmas message from mum

Lorraine Kelly couldn't help but break down into tears after hearing a very special festive message from her dear mum Anne.

The TV presenter, 61, has been unable to see her mum as a result of the restrictions in place amid the coronavirus pandemic, so hearing the message was extra special for Lorraine.

Making a surprise virtual appearance during the Christmas episode of Lorraine, Anne had a few words for her famous daughter on Christmas Day.

An emotional Kelly told Dr Hilary Jones and fashion expert Mark Heyes: "I wish I could see them, it's terrible isn't it? I haven't seen her for ages."

She went on: "Everybody is the same though. Zoom calls galore today. We will see each other. It's like we keep saying.

"We have to scale it down for this year but wow are we going to make up for it next year? My wee mum, that was so lovely."

The show also saw Santa Baby singer Kylie Minogue appear via video call.

Kylie admitted that Christmas for her is different every year, telling Lorraine that she usually goes "decoration crazy... you've got to let yourself go crazy at Christmas time".

The singer, 52, is spending Christmas Day with her boyfriend Paul Solomons, who is the creative director of British GQ magazine.

"Paul and I, Christmas tree, food, TV and movies," she said.

"It's going to be very emotional to be able to call back home and be able to celebrate with my family at a distance, but celebrate nonetheless."

Kylie - who went on to admit that Scrabble is an annual festive tradition in her house - says this year has been nothing but stressful so if people want to let their hair down, they should.

"This Christmas of all Christmases, I think if you want to dress up, knock yourself out, you deserve it," Kylie added.

Also appearing on the festive special was Bake Off star Matt Lucas and singers Michael Ball and Alfie Boe.
