Lorraine Kelly 'baffled' by Prince Harry's comments about his 'upbringing' on US podcast

Lorraine Kelly has given her two cents on Prince Harry's latest venture.

Speaking on her ITV chat show this morning, the Scottish television host discussed the Duke of Sussex's conversation on an American podcast, The Armchair Expert, describing it as a "bit of a therapy session".

Lorraine admitted that she hasn’t listened to all of the episode but said “the bits that I have [listened to], a bit of a therapy session. But normally those types of sessions are done in private. That’s the thing.”

No stranger to discussing and raising awareness for mental health, Prince Harry joined actor, director and writer Dax Shepard on The Armchair Expert, a podcast by Shepard that invites celebs on to talk about the “messiness of being human”.

The Prince openly discussed his upbringing and said that he wants to do better for his children.

He said: "There is no blame. I don’t think we should be pointing the finger or blaming anybody, but certainly when it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so that I don’t pass it on, basically.”

The Duke went on to explain: "It’s hard to do but for me it comes down to awareness. I never saw it, I never knew about it, and then suddenly I started to piece it together and go ‘OK, so this is where he went to school, this is what happened, I know this about his life, I also know that is connected to his parents so that means he’s treated me the way he was treated, so how can I change that for my own kids?’

“And here I am, I moved my whole family to the US, that wasn’t the plan but sometimes you’ve got make decisions and put your family first and put your mental health first."

Talking to Royal Expert Russell Myers, Lorraine claimed that it will be “awkward” when Prince Harry returns to the UK next month.

Reflecting on the "strained relations", as Lorraine put it, with the other royal family member, she said: “He’s supposed to be coming over next month, isn’t he?”

Lorraine added: “It’s going to be awkward, surely?”

Prince Harry is due to be visiting the England next month for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday on July 1.

Lorraine added that she was confused by the Prince’s podcast appearance: “Once again I am baffled, I don’t understand why he would do that”.

Prince Harry was on the podcast to promote his new Apple TV series with Oprah Winfrey where they look at mental health and wellness. It’s due to be released this month.
