Lorraine Kelly backs Jesy Nelson over decision to quit Little Mix due to mental health

Lorraine Kelly has backed Jesy Nelson after she quit Little Mix.

The morning TV star said Jesy was a “lovely woman” who was being “very brave and sensible” by leaving the pop band to bolster her mental health.

Lorraine’s support comes after it was yesterday confirmed that Jesy has left the group, revealing that nine years in the band “took a toll on her mental health”.

Lorraine tweeted: “This is very sad. She’s a lovely women who is being very brave and sensible.

"All wannabes should realise that being in a world famous girl band is bloody hard work and can seriously affect your mental health. Good luck Jesy.”

Jesy, 29, announced the news on her Instagram page on Monday after taking “extended time off” from the group last month.

Jesy told her followers that she was leaving Little Mix with a “heavy heart” as she reflected on the success the band have enjoyed since winning The X Factor in 2011, insisting it had been the “most incredible time” of her life.

She added: “I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

"You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever forget it.”
