Lorraine Kelly appalled by UK's 'shameful' snub to ABBA in Eurovision 47 years after famous win

A shocked and appalled Lorraine Kelly said "we should be ashamed of ourselves," after ABBA star Bjorn Ulvaeus admitted he's still finds it "strange" the UK awarded the group zero points at Eurovision.

As we all know, the Swedish group, famous for hits like Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and Thank You For The Music, found worldwide fame after triumphing in the 1974 contest with their classic song Waterloo.

But their Eurovision victory didn't come with any help from the UK, who hosted the event that year, as we gave the track the infamous 'nil points'.

The Brits were the first ones to embrace us after winning,” Bjorn told BBC Breakfast on Monday.

“Kind of strange they would give us zero points. It sounds like they were trying to do something cunning.”

And the scoring snub did not sit well with Lorraine who is back at the helm of her ITV daytime show this week after being replaced by Cat Deeley and Ranvir Singh over Easter.

As the show returned from an ad break on Tuesday, with Waterloo playing in the background, Lorraine told viewers: "Now, 47 years on, Bjorn is in the news this morning. He's very unhappy because...and I am shocked by this...the UK awarded that iconic song nil points.

"Yes, we gave the iconic song zero points and he says it was a tactical vote to help Olivia Newton-John who was representing the UK that year."

Recalling the Grease star's song, which ended up finishing fourth Lorraine added: "Remember Long Live Love? Not quite as good as Waterloo!

"Shameful! We should be ashamed of ourselves as a nation that we gave zero to Waterloo!"

Bjorn's 47-year-old gripe against the UK's Eurovision voting also prompted a phone-in on This Morning about people with long-standing grudges, with Rochelle joking that Bjorn's "millions" must have helped soften the blow a bit.
