Lorraine Kelly apologises to Yorkshire after glaring error but residents have another issue

A mortified Lorraine Kelly was forced to apologise to the whole of Yorkshire after a glaring error on Wednesday's show, but residents took issue with something else.

Within the first 15 minutes of the latest instalment of Lorraine, the famous TV host talked about the fact that Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise had been spotted filming in North Yorkshire.

The actor, famous for roles in the likes of Risky Business, The Firm and Jerry Maguire, was pictured at Levisham, near Pickering, to shoot scenes, for what was firmly believed to be the new Mission Impossible movie, on the local vintage railway.

Onlookers saw Cruise clambering onto the top of a train carriage to film a stunt.

Lorraine thanked her colleagues at ITV Tyne Tees for the footage they shot of the A-lister but was blissfully unaware of a huge mistake in the caption used by someone on her show, which saw 'Yorkhire' appear on the screen rather than Yorkshire.

As you'd expect, viewers, particularly those in Yorkshire, took little time to pick up on the mishap and, around 10 minutes later Lorraine issued an apology, saying: "I need to say a huge apology to everybody in Yorkshire as we spelt it wrong!

"The person responsible will of course be flogged...no, it's just a slip of the type writer!

"So sorry we called you Yorkhire, we know it's Yorkshire!"

While accepting the apology over the spelling mistake, others took exception at Lorraine's pronunciation of Yorkshire, with one tweeting: "Its not pronounced YorkSHIRE, its pronounced Yorkshur," and another reacting: "Love the way Lorraine is apologising to Yorkshire whilst still mispronouncing Yorkshire"

Another viewer, tuning in from the North East, told Lorraine: "as someone from the north east I'm offended by the way you pronounce Yorkshire.

"And also by the fact the person who types up the captions for the screen put "Yorkhire" and not Yorkshire"
