Lorraine Kelly accuses senior officials of 'smashing laws to smithereens' in rant at Matt Hancock

Lorraine Kelly has accused senior Government officials of 'smashing laws to smithereens' with their actions during lockdown.

After boycotting Good Morning Britain after clashes with host Piers Morgan, Matt Hancock shocked everyone, including GMB presenters Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins, by appearing on Lorraine on Wednesday and he wasn't given an easy ride by the TV legend as she threw a barrage of questions at him.

One of them was centered around the new rules on face coverings and whether the Health Secretary believed the British public would abide by them, given that we've seen officials, most notably Dominic Cummings, with his trip to Durham and now infamous drive to Barnard Castle, flout Government guidelines during lockdown.

Lorraine asked Hancock: "To feel confident you have to have trust and would you accept that any trust has now eroded because of a lack of compliance from senior figures?

"We saw what happened with Dominic Cummings and others - they flouted the law; they didn't just bend the laws, they smashed them to smithereens!"

Refusing to be drawn on the accusations against Government officials, the Health Secretary replied: "People have been really brilliant at following them (the rules)."

Earlier on in the interview, Matt said "the vast majority," of people had abided by rules, adding: "We have issued hardly any fine because we don't need to."
