Lorraine Kelly '100% agrees' with calls to convict Donald Trump in Piers Morgan interview

Lorraine Kelly has agreed with calls to prosecute Donald Trump in an interview with Piers Morgan.

The Scots TV presenter discussed the upcoming impeachment trial with the Good Morning Britain star on her ITV programme this morning.

Morgan said that Donald Trump was responsible for inciting riots at the Capitol earlier this month, which resulted in the deaths of five people.

And Lorraine was in '100% agreement' with her ITV colleague as he called for the former US President’s conviction.

He said: “The purpose of the impeachment trial is to make him accountable for inciting that riot and there is not doubt he did.

“He told them to march down to the cabinet, he told them to fight for him. His other lieutenants like Rudi Giuliani used the phrase ‘combat’.

“And of course to these slightly brainwashed supporters, they took him literally. ‘We’ve got to stop the steal’ - that was Trump’s phrase and they actually went down to try and stop the election from being ratified in the heart of US Congress.

“It was one of the most appalling things that I’ve ever seen.”

Lorraine added: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing to be honest.”

Piers continued on his rant: “You can’t prosecute the people that did that and not prosecute and make accountable the person that instigated it, and that was Donald Trump.

“I hope that the Republicans grow a pair and I hope they prosecute him in the Senate and they convict him and make him accountable for what happened.”

Lorraine then said: “I would agree with you 100%”

If found guilty, the former president would be barred from holding public office ever again - which would end any ambitions for Trump to run again in 2024.

It is the first time ever for an American president to face a second impeachment trial.

Current US President Joe Biden was sworn into office during his inauguration ceremony in Washington last week.

Donald Trump became the fourth president in history not to attend the event as he opted to jet off to Florida instead.
