Loris Karius speaks out on Liverpool future, Jurgen Klopp talks and his 'expensive car'

Loris Karius is hoping to secure a permanent transfer away from Liverpool by staying at Union Berlin after his loan deal ends.

The goalkeeper has not featured for the Reds since making two big errors in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2019.

The German was sent out on loan to Besiktas last season, though things didn't work out and public rows erupted over wages.

He then signed a temporary deal with Union and has started in three Bundesliga matches this term, with first-choice goalkeeper Andreas Luthe absent due to injury.

“I still have a contract with Liverpool FC until 2022,” Karius told BILD . “But of course, I can imagine staying in Berlin if everything fits. I’m not just passing through here.

“The mentality of the people and the spirit of the team are good for me. I’m basically a down-to-earth guy.

"Even though I drive an expensive car.”

Karius also made one appearance in the DFB-Pokal Cup during this campaign too, which his side lost.

There is little chance of the 27-year-old working his way back into Liverpool's squad with the emerging Caiomhin Kelleher and Adrian the two back-up choices to No.1 Alisson.

And the Reds will no doubt hope to offload Karius this summer, rather than lose him on a free next term.

“It was always fair and honest. He always tells you what the situation is like,” Karius added when asked chats with manager Jurgen Klopp about his move to Berlin.

“We always had a good relationship and never had a problem. His successes speak for themselves.

“He is currently one of the best coaches of the world.

“He said it (the move to Union) is a good step, that I have the chance to distinguish myself here and he told me that I can show everyone that I’m a really good goalkeeper.”
