Loris Karius: 'Something is wrong' with Liverpool loanee, claims Besiktas boss

Liverpool loanee Loris Karius has been criticised publicly by his manager after his latest poor display for Besiktas

The German goalkeeper, who was under intense scrutiny for the Reds last season, has failed to shine so far in Turkey after penning a two-year loan deal last summer after the signing of Alisson.

With just five clean sheets in 26 games and a recent key error in his failed attempt to stop Omer Ali Sahiner’s goal for Konyaspor, Senol Gunes has questioned Karius’ “enthusiasm for the game.”

“He was at fault for the goals he conceded,” said the Besiktas manager.

“Karius has gone a bit stagnant, something is wrong with his electricity, motivation, enthusiasm for the game.

“It has been like that since the beginning, “he added. “He does not really feel a part of the team.

“It’s something we haven’t been able to work out and, of course, I am partly to blame for this.”

And Karius could find himself on the bench soon, as Gunes revealed he would have started 35-year-old Tolga Zengin in his place had he not been suspended.

“Something is wrong, he has also been unlucky,” Gunes said.

“[He] is talented but it hasn’t worked out and we have a problem. Let me put it this way, if I still had Tolga available I would play him.”
