The agent of Loris Karius has hit back at Besiktas for portraying the on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper as a "bogeyman" as the row between the two parties escalates.
Besiktas director Erda Torunogullari revealed on Monday that Karius had complained to FIFA over unpaid wages and was seeking to have his contract terminated.
The insinuation from the Turkish side was that the 26-year-old wanted to be paid for the time out of action since the league was suspended more than a month ago due to the coronavirus outbreak.
And that has been strongly refuted by Karius' agent Florian Goll.
“I strongly condemn the fact that club representatives now want to portray Loris as a bogeyman," he said.
"The reminded payments have absolutely nothing to do with the coronavirus crisis, even if the club likes to communicate that.
"We didn't split up. Loris is still under contract with Besiktas."
The report in German news outlet Bild adds that Goll sent Besiktas a number of reminders between October and March for outstanding salary payments worth around £1.4million before filing a complaint with FIFA.
It isn't the first time Karius has complained to the world governing body over his financial situation at the Turkish side.
In March 2019, Liverpool offered their support to the player after it emerged he was owed four months wages, an issue that was ultimately resolved.
Karius is coming to the end of a two-year loan spell at Besiktas having moved in August 2018, when Liverpool banked a loan fee of £2.25m.
Besiktas retain the right to buy him for £7.25m this summer if certain performance criteria are met relating to appearances and qualification for Europe. Karius is under contract at Liverpool until 2020.
