Loris Karius confirms Jurgen Klopp contact with Besiktas loan deal set to end

Loris Karius says he's been keeping in touch with Jurgen Klopp ahead of a key summer in the goalkeeper's career.

The German has been on loan at Besiktas since the beginning of the 2018/19 season, and hasn't played for Liverpool since his nightmare evening in Kiev in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old's stay in Turkey will come to an end once the current season finishes, but with Alisson Becker having established himself as the No.1 goalkeeper at Anfield there would appear to be little chance of him returning to Klopp's first-team squad.

Regardless of that, he say he has stayed in touch with the manager during his time away

"I primarily write with goalkeeper coach John Achterberg. Almost weekly, he is my first point of contact," Karis told Sport Bild.

"But now and then I also write with Jurgen Klopp, I am in good contact with everyone. I was never out of it.

"The fact is that I have a contract in Liverpool until 2022. And at the moment I'm just concentrating on the season at Besiktas.

"It is far too early to say anything about summer. Especially now that nobody knows exactly what to do because of the coronavirus."

Karius added that he wishes he'd been more forthright about the concussion he suffered in that 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid, when errors for him directly contributed to goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

"In retrospect, I should have dealt with it publicly much more aggressively. I had a concussion after a blow from Sergio Ramos, which restricted my spatial vision," he said.

"When the result was released, there was a lot of malice and insult, often well below the belt. I never used it as an excuse. But when people make fun of someone who has badly injured their head, I have no understanding.

"The reactions were over the top and disrespectful. My mistakes were not assessed fairly."
