Lorenzo White to be inducted into MSU Ring of Fame

One of the greatest football players to ever don the Michigan State green and white will be forever enshrined at Spartan Stadium.

Lorenzo White, a former All-American and Heisman finalist running back, will become the newest member of the Spartan Stadium Ring of Honor this season. According to White, who was honored at Big Ten Media Days as a 2019 College Football Hal of Fame inductee, says that the ceremony will take place on Homecoming, September 28th against Indiana.

The Ft. Lauderdale, FL native had a storied career at MSU, becoming the first ever Big Ten running back to rush for 2,000 yards in a season when he piled up 2,066 yards in 1985. During his senior season in 1987 White ran for more than 1,500 yards and had 16 touchdowns. He was an All-American and Heisman finalist each of those two years, as well as the Big Ten Player of the Year in 1987.

As a Senior White helped lead the Spartans to a Big Ten and Rose Bowl championship over Southern California.

White finished his MSU career with 4,887 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns. He was a first-round draft pick of the Houston Oilers in 1988 and went on to have an eight year NFL career.

White will be the 13th name in the Ring of Fame. Kirk Gibson was the last to be added. He was honored during the 2017 season.
