Lorenzo Taliaferro dead: Former Baltimore Ravens running back passes away aged 28

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro has died, aged 28.

The NFL franchise confirmed the news after several outlets had reported Taliaferro had passed away following a heart attack.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Lorenzo Taliaferro," coach John Harbaugh said in a statement.

"Lorenzo was a kind, smart, respectful and determined young man -- someone always committed to his teammates and well-liked by everyone in our organization.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lorenzo's family.

"May he rest in peace."

Taliaferro was pronounced dead at Riverside Doctors' Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia. The cause of death was not announced.

Taliaferro, a Virgina native, impressed at Bruton High School before moving to Coastal Carolina.

He was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Taliaferro rushed for 292 yards and four touchdown in his rookie season, joining Justin Forsett and Bernard Pierce in helping Baltimore replace Ray Rice in 2014 as he served a domestic violence suspensions.

Over the course of a three-year career with the Ravens, he totaled 82 carries for 339 yards and five touchdowns across 19 games.
