Dublin's frontline heroes are set to be acknowledged for their hard work through the coronavirus pandemic as the Lord Mayor Awards go monthly for 2021.
Lord Mayor Hazel Chu has decided to announce a winner each month beginning in October, with the winner receiving a specially-commissioned sculpture and a €1,000 gift voucher.
To start off, nursing home staff and volunteers will be nominated from October 1, and each month a different category will be nominated through to April.
They include:
- Nursing Home Staff & Volunteers (October)
- Transport Staff (November)
- Hospital Services Staff (December)
- Retail Staff (January)
- Emergency Services Staff (February)
- Hospital Medical Staff (March)
- Community Workers and Volunteers (April)
Lord Mayor Hazel Chu said: "Since March we have witnessed the Trojan effort frontline workers have given to keep our communities going. This is a chance for the people of Dublin to thank someone who has made a real difference in their life during Covid.
“Depending on where things are at, hopefully before summer 2021 we will be able to bring all the monthly winners together for a reception in the Mansion House to thank them on behalf of the city.”
