Lord Byron relative appears on The Chase and gets poetry question wrong

The Chase had a descendent of British literary royalty as a contestant tonight (October 6) as Sharon from Leeds proudly spoke about her family heritage and her love of poetry.

But despite waxing lyrical with host Bradley Walsh about hoping to make a movie about famous relative - poet Lord Byron - she managed to get a cash builder question about poetry incorrect.

To be fair to Sharon, anyone can freeze up on the spot, especially on a quiz show on national telly. Speaking about her background Sharon told Walsh that she was about to play a vampire in a film called Remember, Remember and she hoped to one day adapted her dad's book on Byron into a film, and also said: "I love writing poetry, my distant ancestor was Lord Byron so I think I get it from him.

"He was mad, bad and dangerous to know and I'm trying to live up to his reputation."

Lord Byron was one of the most revered British poets of the 18th century and one of the leading members of the Romantic movement.

Sharon was stumped by a poetry question about one of the UK's most famous poems (ITV)

During the Chaser round, Bradley asked Sharon: "Who wrote the famous poem that ends 'one day, you'll be a man my son'?"

Sharon answered Tennyson but it was actually Rudyard Kipling, from his famous poem, If.

She managed to get £4,000 in the cash builder but was foxed by The Vixen aka Jenny Ryan who caught up with her.

The Vixen managed to get a dig in saying: "I assume you're better at writing poetry than answering questions about poetry."

Three of the line-up of contestants were booted off the general knowledge show, leaving Open University employee Louis to compete for a decent £6,000 on his own.

Unfortunately, as with many episodes of The Chase, the player left at the end went home with nothing.
