Lord Ashcroft hospitalised with kidney failure: Peer unable to attend Call Me Dave book launch

Lord Ashcroft has missed the launch of the controversial biography of David Cameron which he co-authored, after it emerged he has been in intensive care for 18 days.

The peer suffered liver and kidney failure as well as septic shock, and is currently recovering in the US, organisers of the Call Me Dave book launch in London told The Telegraph

He is now "out of danger", they added.

LBC presenter Iain Dale represented Lord Ashcroft at the event, according to tweets posted by those who attended.

In a statement by Lord Ashcroft read at the event, he denied that he was motivated by “revenge and malice” to write the book.

“While I'm certainly mischievous, I'm not malicious,” the statement said.
