Lord Alan Sugar brands people who work from home 'lazy' and says they should earn less

Billionaire businessman and host of The Apprentice TV show, Lord Sugar, has hit out at people who work from home, calling them "lazy". He also said they should be paid less because they saved on commuting costs.

He was posting on Twitter in response to a segment run on Good Morning Britain about the cost of living crisis. During the discussion, business owner Geeta Sidhu-Robb suggested that employees working remotely actually saved their companies money as home-workers end up having to pay more for energy bills.

But Tina Knight disagreed, arguing that those who work from home instead make a saving on commuting costs, meaning companies shouldn’t have to pay them any extra. Lord Sugar also thought that home-workers should be declined a pay rise, reports BirminghamLive.

Taking to Twitter, the 75-year-old billionaire shared his view, explaining: "@GMB are saying people who work from home should be paid more to keep warm as companies are saving money while the workers are away. RUBBISH they have to pay rent, heating and rates with or without a full work place. People should be paid less they are saving travel costs."

He later doubled down on his attack on people working from home, adding: "A large percentage of people who work from home are lazy gits they got to like the life created by the pandemic. What about nurses, doctors, cleaners, restaurant staff, builders and decorators, taxi and truck drivers they cant work from home but provide the lazy gits a service [sic]."

The Apprentice will return to BBC One later this year.
