Loot & murder of Kolkata gold trader cracked, 3 held in Agra

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS), with the help of Kolkata police, arrested three persons from Agra in connection with the loot and murder of a gold trader in Kolkata.

Police have recovered gold worth Rs 2.8 crore from the possession of the accused, Karan Verma (27), Sushil Kumar (28), and Roop Kishore (35), all natives of UP.

The accused were arrested from a bus stop in Agra.

“Gold trader, Dilip Kumar Gupta (61), was found dead at his business establishment on Shibtala Street in Kolkata on February 27. With the help of electronic surveillance, the location of the accused was traced in UP,” said additional director general, law and order, Prashant Kumar.

“We came to know from the Kolkata police that one of the employees of Dilip, identified as Anuj, was a suspect.

He was rounded up after which he spilled the beans. He told cops that he had hired three men from UP for the loot,” said assistant superintendent of police, ATS, Alok Kumar Singh.

“ATS teams maintained strict vigil at all the major entry and exit points of the state. We nabbed the suspects at a bus stop,” he added.

“The accused told the cops they did not want to murder the gold trader. When he offered resistance and raised an alarm, they decided to kill him and decamped with the booty,” the ASP said.

According to ATS sources, the trio were offered a lucrative deal and the valuables were to be sold in Rajasthan.
